Sketch Vase collection was produced for an exhibition called Puhdetyö during Helsinki Design Week 2019. Puhdetyö refers to the handicrafts done after dark once the field chores were done, but in this scenario it was what 6 designers did when there was no brief. We worked with the glass masters at Lasisirkus to produce our individual pieces for the exhibition.

I was so amazed to learn that molten glass can be cut using scissors that I decided to sketch some vases and literally cut them out of hot glass. An extra layer of playfulness came from the interpretation of my sketch by the person cutting the glass and all the lively, unplanned twists and turns that happened while the glass was being worked. Materials: Mouth blown and scissor-cut glass by Lasisirkus at Nuutajärvi. NOTE TO JURY: Sketch Vases can be displayed as single objects, but they were intended as a group. I have included 3 photos of 'vase groups,' but please feel free to pick and choose as you like. I included the height of the tallest and diameter of the widest for you to consider.
