Panu Turunen

Designer

Panu Turunen graduated from the Institute of Design and Fine Arts of Lahti University of Applied Sciences in 2004. He works as a designer in industrial field as well as in applied arts.

 

Already in 2003, Turunen familiarized himself with freely mouthblown glass in Nuutajärvi, and ever since he has worked in close association with Master glassblower Kari Alakoski, who has won the Nordic Championship in glassblowing.Since 2007, Turunen has worked as the Design Manager of Skaala Oy that expertises in manufacturing windows, doors and glazings. The designers’s own company, Scandinavian Interior, started in 2008, concentrating on designing furniture for carpentry. Turunen lives in Valkeakoski, at the museum milieu of the enchanting Jugend era atelier that the sculptor Emil Wikström (1864-1942) built by the lake Vanajavesi (visavuori.com).

 

The glass art designed by Turunen is created in close association with the Master glassblower Kari Alakoski at the traditional milieu of the old glassworks of Riihimäki (www.verstakko.fi).

 

 

The Drop Vase was chosen for the Finland Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo to represent the unique beauty of the Finnish nature. Turunen’s work has also been on display at the exhibition of Finnish Glass Museum of Riihimäki. Turunen’s design is often bought by international audience, as token from Finland. In Finland, the signed, unique pieces are bought as interior decoration, awards, and presents by customers and companies.
